Some organizations require that their workers report at least 8 hour per day
of work, regardless of the type of work done. This work might include both
project-related work, such as project tasks, and non-project work, such as
meetings, training, administrative time, etc. In the past, they may have
used paper timesheets. With Project Server 2007, such an organization could
use the My Timesheet functionality. If your organization does not have
reporting requirements such as this, then you probably don't need to use the
My Timesheet functionality. Remember, the My Timesheet feature is used to
capture ALL types of working time, not just project time.

The My Tasks page is used to capture work specifically on project tasks
only. Actual Work entered against tasks on the My Tasks page, and then
updated to the PM, will impact the schedule in the Microsoft Project plan.
If your organization uses the My Timesheet feature, your Project Server
administrator can mandate that all work is intered on the My Timesheet page,
and then your team members must import their task progress to the My Tasks
page. Hope this helps.

Dale, I do have an issue with some methods that are being used by PS07

e.g An assignment is tracked and 100% , let say 16 hrs of work is
completed. User updates task and at the end of the week creates timesheet.

However, at that time the user can still edit in time and either add /adjust
time . This basically throw the financials off and PS07 does not track this
adjustment back again to the project level.

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but its a headache to verify timesheets
against project task's to maintain data intergrity and making sure that all
match up..

are there any better suggestion to manage this process ??

This is basically a training and performance issue with your team members.
I would recommend you teach your team members a process like this:

1. Team members enter time on their My Timesheet on a daily basis and save
the changes.
2. On the last day of the reporting period, submit the timesheet to the
Timesheet approver.
3. On the My Tasks page, import the My Timesheet information.
4. Adjust the Remaining Work, if necessary.
5. Add a Note as needed.
6. Submit the task progress to the project manager.

Beyond this, if you want to force people to enter all progress in the My
Timesheet page, your Project Server administrator can select the "Time entry
by timesheet only..." option on the Task Settings and Display page in PWA.
Doing this will prevent your team members from adjusting the Remaining Work
value, however. Hope this helps.

Hi, Dale.
When i select "Time entry by timesheet only", users cannot change the
remaining work. This means that team members cannot update the project plan
with new estimations about total work to do. I could do this in PS2003.

How can we force the use of timesheets and allow team members update the
remaining work?

Thanks,
Wilt
