different dates

All dates on a gantt chart in the left hand column are showing as 01/06/2006
but the dates on the top row are showing as 01/06/2007. I have never used MS
Project. I am trying to help someone.
Any help is appreciated.

Looks like you have entered a financial year that is different from the
calendar year. Select Tools, Options, Calendar tab and set financial year
start to January

or

Double-click anywhere on the timescale and if your version of Project
supports it, deselect the Use Fiscal year option.
