Different rates for the same resource

In a project server 2003 environment, I want to be able to use the same
enterprise resource on a number of different projects and charge them out at
different rates. So, for example the same person might be charged on 1
project at $100 per hr and on another at $120 per hour.

It appears that the standard rate defined in the Enterprise resource pool
overrides whatever is defined within the project itself.

I could get there by using different cost rate tables but it's awfully
clunky and error-prone.

Is it possible to do what I want and if so how?

Dear Denis,

I am not an expert on this but one possible way of doing this is to:
1. Define all rates for the resource in various cost table (this would be
done in Ent Resource Pool).
2. Assign resources to all tasks
3. Apply Resource Usage View
4. Select all tasks for this resource and open Asignment info box
5. Under General Tab select the cost table you want to apply, click OK

We can probably write a macro to automate above for a project.

Others may correct if I am wrong.

Thanks for the help. I'd had looked at that option - but it's a bit of a
pain. Firstly you have to remember EVERY time you allocate a resource to a
task to use the right cost rate table and secondly, as Vadim picked up, it's
limited to 5 rates. If you forget to update the cost rate table you get the
A rate by default and it all appears to work - you get no warnings (but as
you suggest, you could do some things with macros).

The only other alternative I can see is to use a 'local rate' in a custom
field - but then I need to use custom fields for cost, actual cost, remaining
cost etc. and do the whole thing myself with custom fields. I then have to
customize all the views etc. to use my custom cost fields instead of the
standard ones. It's doable but clumsy.

Any other thoughts welcome.
