We have 3 different version of access database in my environment which are
95,97,xp and we are planning to install all in a terminal server environment.
Is there anything i need to be concerned about. If there is i will really
appreciate any advice on the way forward.

Generally, it is reported that few problems arise from running multiple Access
versions (keep them in separate folders, things like that).

There are a few issues to do with installing on Terminal Server, such as
needing a different "transform file" at least with Access2000.

Have you searched http://search.support.microsoft.com/search/?adv=1 for
"terminal server" with each Access? Interesting, including that MS says
multiple Access is not supported (or tested) on Terminal Server!

A search suggests there are many things to be concerned about! Maybe you won't
come across most of them, so maybe it's better to test and then ask specific
questions?

A95 - are you really using this? You'll find no assistance whatever, either
from MS or fellow developers. It was the worst version bar none, and I don't
know of anyone who uses it. A95 (I imagine) is directly transferable to A97,
or to A2000etc with only minor issues.

A97 - though I still use this myself, MS support seems to be dropping off
rapidly. You can still search on A97 kb articles. For some of my products, I
dropped the A97 variant a year or so ago, taking A2000 or A2002 as a base
"standard".

The KB lists "sufficiently known" issues. You really have to test for yourself
as a) that may not be all the issues b) you might not come across many of
them. I tested installing A2000 on TS with no more issues than some transform
file. I would have considered, that multiple versions and an upgrade like
that, is perhaps time to consider standardising the Access version? Who wants
to know the peculiarities of each Access with TS, and who's paying?

Slawal,

I support Chris here, standarize your environment. In Citrix MPS4.0 you have
to ability to user Application Isolation Environment but I am not sure if you
can get this to work in a terminal server environment. Access 95 is really
end of life and 97 well it's a long time ago :)
Can't you migrate to Office2003 suite?

Another aprouch would be to isolate them on seperate servers. This is a
pricy solution though.

Only Access 2000 and later will run properly on Terminal Server. Access 95/97
will install on the termianl server, but will not run properly.

My ubderstanding is that Office 2000 was the first veriosn of Office that
really supported Termianl Server.

I tried to install Access 97 on a terminal server and it would not tun.

We ran Access 97 on multiple Terminal Servers for several years. Windows Server
2003 doesn't seem to like the low priority cpu usage that Access 97 has, but
other than that it does run under TS.
