Style tab from Menu in Equation Editor (Power Point and Word) doesn't have a
style for mathematical operators, but it does have styles for "function."
Actually, functions CAN be in italics. However, mathematical operators can
NOT be. For example, differential (upright "d") is an operator, NOT a
function. So is "e," exponential. I seriously think you should have a row
that says OPERATOR in the Style tab in the Equation Editor.
Also, the Help for these topics--functions and operators--is not helpful. I
had a hard time trying to find help on mathematical operators in Equation
Editor, 'cause actually, there is no Help for mathematical operators.
