Dimension Line Inaccuracy in Visio 2003

I am using Visio 2003 SP2 with Windows XP. Visio has a habit of re-sizing
dimension lines (Visio calls them "Controller dimensions" to a size other
than what I want. Here's a recent example:

From the "Walls, Doors, & Windows" stencil, I drag the "Controller
Dimension" shape onto the page. It defaults to 8 ft. I want to make it 18 ft.
2 in., so I type that length into the Size & Position window in the "length"
field, using the correct syntax. Visio changes the length of the controller
dimension to 17 ft. 4 in. Again I type "18 ft. 2 in." (exactly like that)
into the length field and press ENTER, but the length stays at 17 ft. 4 in.

Visio won't always make the line 17 ft. 4 in., but it often gets the length
wrong, and usually shorter than what I need.

Any ideas?

This happens A LOT with this application.

I see similar behavior. I'll notify our development team.

I have not discovered why this isn't working in Visio 2003. My guess is
that the ft-in measurement is getting rounded improperly during internal
calculations. I did verify that the problem has been addressed for Visio
2007.

Meanwhile, you can still type the dimension directly into shape text and get
the correct length.

Thanks for that follow-up, and I didn't realize that I could type the length
in to the shape text. That's good info to have.
