Direct vs. Indirect opening of Word

Is there a switch or setting that VBA can detect that 'advises' whether Word is
being 'directly' opened from the Word icon (e.g., the programs icon on the
desktop) as opposed to being 'indirectly' opened by clicking on a document( and
Word opening by virtue of the association of the ".doc" extension with Word)?
The command:
CommandBars("Task Pane").Visible
seems to behave differently in each situation.

Probably has something to do with whether or not a document is opened when Word opens, rather than a "switch" per say.
