Loading Word 2000 docs into Word 2002, Internal Data Integrity err

T

Tim

We have over 10,000 documents on a Electronic document management system
which has a web based interface. When a view icon is clicked, a copy of the
document is delivered to the desktop which based upon the file extension, it
loads the document into the associated application.

We have recently updated our desktops to Office 2003.
Word 2003 is generating a corruption error (prevents document from being
viewed)when some of these documents are accessed via our Electronic document
management system. If these documents are downloaded to the client machine,
they can be opened in Word 2003 using the 'Open & Repair' feature. Word 2003
then identifies that there are 'Internal Data Integrity' errors and allows
the documents to be viewed.

I haven't had any luck finding anything about "Internal Data Integrity"
errors.

Thanks for you help.

G'day Tim <[email protected]>,

Document corruption is an invisible beast, mainly discernable by
unexplained bloat in your file. Chances are you have a plethora of
mangy, unused list templates or other like objects lying around
inside. Word 2003 has some better smarts for detecting these sorts of
potential problems, and so complains where 2000 and XP didn't. These
documents need a cleansing of some sort.
