directional selection

As in Autocad
In one direction : you select all the shapes which are (partially) in the
rectangle
In the other direction : you select the shapes which are totally in the
rectangle

I don't see any disadvantages, except for the people who don't know about it.

Hope this relpy doesn't show up twice--

The ability to do partial shape selection is a feature long missing and
would be very handy to have. One slight variation of the present proposal:
add the shift key to modify the behavior. That is, without the shift key
depressed, normal selection takes place, i.e., only fully enclosed shapes are
identified. However, holding down the shift key enables "partial" selection
such that both fully enclosed and partially enclosed shapes are selected.
This eliminates the "directional" limitation and should minimize confusion.

Whoa! Thanks John. I've been to that menu numerous times, must've looked at
that entry before, but, it never quite made it to the brain! So, adding the
shift key ought to be fairly easy to implement and would be more efficient
than the menu selection.

Thanks again.

It seems necessary to use both hands in Visio to work a bit quickly.
This in favour for the shift key.
On the other hand, Sketchup is setting the norm, and there directional
selection is also possible.
Or some mix of settings, direction and shift, risking many of questions on
this forum.
