disabel virus scan

Please can anyone help
I have installed McAfee on my computer and now it takes for ever to open a
word/excel document does anyone know how to disable this?
i have been intouch with mcafee tec's but with no sucess they told me to go
into options that didnt work, they told me to disable it that didnt work, i
was told to go into msconfig that also didnt work
any info is greatfully received

Did the computer ever have Norton Antivirus installed on it? If so, then
it's possible that the Norton Office Plugin is still registered in Windows,
even if you uninstalled Norton. Search for the OFFICEAV.DLL file on your
hard drive (include hidden and system files and folders in the search
options) and note the directory path where it is located. Close all open
applications. From Windows, click on Start | Run. In the Open dialog box,
type the command (including quotes):

Regsvr32 -u "C:\<path>\OfficeAV.dll"

but replace <path> with the directory path for your OfficeAV.dll file. Click
