disable auto page numbering

S

Suzanne S. Barnhill

There is no auto page numbering in headers and footers. If you have page
numbers in a header or footer, the { PAGE } field must have been saved in
the template on which you are basing your documents (Normal.dot by default).
If your question means something different (such as how to suppress or
restart numbering for certain pages), then post back with a clearer
statement of the problem.

Going one step further, if you have page numbering in a new document based
on normal.dot, you need to change normal.dot back to get rid of this. Page
numbering when set using Insert > Page Number is in fields in frames. When
set through the Header/footer view, it is in fields. You want to delete
these from your normal.dot.

Take a look at http://www.mvps.org/word/FAQs/Numbering/PageNumbering.htm.
