Disable control-A (select all)

Is it possible to disable control-A (select all) in Word? There's a "Select
All" under Tools > Customize > Edit but it can't be modified. (The
"Modified" button is grayed out.) There is no "SelectAll" under the
"Keyboard" button.

Actually Ctrl-A is a System Wide shortcut. Click on your desktop and try
it.

I know and I need to turn it off on my wife's machine somehow. She
inadvertently hits control-A instead of shift-A from time to time without
realizing it. On one occasion she unwittingly replaced an entire 80,000 word
file with a single letter. Not good.

Perhaps you could use a "keyswap" utility off the internet to "reassign"
the left CTRL key?

To turn it off in Word ...

Select Tools > Customize from the Menu.
Press "Keyboard..."
Under categories, on the left, Select "Edit"
Scroll down the commands list on the right and select "EditSelectAll"
Under "Current keys", Select "Ctrl+A"
Click on "Remove"
Click on "Close", and "Close" again to exit the two dialogs.
