Don't use them?

How do you turn off a hammer? Don't use it.

Now, if you have already used layout tables in your site and you want to get
rid of them, you don't "turn them off" - you remove them. Again, think of a
carpenter, who has already built some rooms using the wrong design. He now
has the right design, but has built several rooms using the wrong one. What
does he do? He tears out the stuff he built wrong, and rebuilds it right. A
layout table is simply a table. It's not like a Shared Border. To get rid of
it, you edit the page, the same way you added it in the first place.

Steve,

Reading both your and Kevin's answers...I now wonder exactly what Larry wants to do?:

1- Kevin - get rid of the actual layout tables for the entire site.
or
2- Steve - get rid of the layout Table choice from the Menu Toolbar

h.....

AH!
I use a template for new pages that has the table layout tools enabled.
Now I know the source of the problem and can start fixing it.
Thank you Kevin!

you can turn off the table's tool bars from View menu - is this what you mean?
You can disable/delete menus, toolbars, specific tool bar buttons....it is pretty
flexible I should think.

I interpreted this as not wanting the Tables menu/tool bar visible
