disable mouse on combo box list

is it possible to disable the mouse pointer when my combo box is dropped down
so that i will not highlight any record on that list

ummm... WHY?

That would disable the combo box and make it impossible for the user to *use*
the combo box with the mouse. Sort of like asking "How can I disable the
transmission on my car so I can't shift out of park"...
