Disable the Preview Pane permanently

Start Outlook by using Start-> Run with the /Nopreview command line switch.
You can also add this switch to your shortcut to Outlook.

thanks! Do you know of any way to disable it in the registry? I am hoping to kill this feature on 300+ computers

You can install the Office Resource Kit for this. It holds an adm-template
which you can add to your Group Policy so settings are mandatory.

Your users will not be happy and they have every right to.

Any particular reason?

If it is for antivirus policy, you should install decent antivirus software
which does not intefere in peoples work methods.
