Disabling the "auto-check-for-mail" function in Outllook 2000

Howdy, posted this in the wrong forum, so reposting it again here. :)

Looking for a way to disable Outlook 2000 from checking for mail when the program is statrted. I'd like for it to only check when I hit "send/recieve" or when the timed check (ie check every xx minuted) is utilized. It's very annoying to pop open Outlook just to reference a note or e-mail only to be locked in waiting for it to check all accounts and run all rules before it lets you continue.

Anyway to turn this off?

Goto Tools, options, Main setup tab, and uncheck send immeditaly when connected box

thanks, between your suggestion and the other posted on another thread I got it to stop :)
