The footer has disappeared completely from my document.

By "disappeared," do you mean that it doesn't print or doesn't display? If
this is in Print Layout view in Word 2002 or above, do you mean that you are
not seeing the header/footer area of the document (Tools | Options | View:
White space between pages) or that you are seeing the footer area and it is
empty? If the latter, are you sure you didn't delete the footer text? Or
perhaps you put it in a First Page Footer and then cleared the "Different
first page" option (File | Page Setup | Layout), or you put it in the Footer
and then checked "Different first page" so that what you are now looking at
(in a single-page document) is the First Page Footer? If you can provide
more specifics about what you're seeing, perhaps we can provide a better
answer.

We're having the same problem with one chapter of a report.
The header and footer have completely
disappeared...including the dotted lines and the words
"Header" and "Footer." When we select view header and
footer nothing happens. If we select insert page numbers,
again nothing happens. Any ideas???
