Disappearing Pics in Header - Excel 2003

When emailed, pictures (jpgs) i have inserted into the header of an Excel
2003 document disappear (i.e. they don't print and aren't in print preview)
is there any way around this or is it a known problem,
Many Thanks.
PS Email used Outlook 2003.

Are the files being opened in Excel 2002 or later version?

If the recipient has an older version of Excel, the pictures won't appear.
