Disappearing Toolbars

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel For the past couple of days, every time I open a new document in Word, my toolbars are gone - all that I see are the red/yellow/green circles, the gallery bar, the ruler, and then the document itself. When I go to View, the toolbars I want to view are still checked. To get them to appear again I have to uncheck one of them, recheck it, and then all reappear (I just have it set to show standard and formatting). This fixes the problem for that document only. I have to go through this process for every single document that I open, and it does not stay fixed if I close and reopen the same document.

I think I installed a "critical update" in the past week, but I honestly don't remember. Please help! This is driving me insane!!!

This sounds like you have encountered one particular Mac OS X feature
that can cause a lot of confusion if you don't know how it works. In the
top right corner of your document window, you should see an oval button
that looks a little bit like a pill; click on it, and your toolbars
should reappear. This button, which can be found in many Mac OS X
applications, allows you to quickly hide the toolbars and expand the
main document. Clicking on it a second time will bring them back.

I TOTALLY forgot about that button. Feel like an idiot now, but thank you!
