Disc does not mount

I am attempting to upgrade my Mac Pro from MS Office X for Mac Service Release 1 to Office 2008 but the install disc just spins for a minute and ejects. I had a coworker put the disc in her computer and it did mount but she has Office 2004. Do I need to install 2004 to upgrade to 2008? The Upgrade Requirements printed on the box promise that any version of Office as far back as 98 can be upgraded.

The upgrade does indeed cover v.X, so if the DVD works in one computer but
not in another it suggests that the latter's drive is faulty. Even if the
upgrade wasn't valid the drive should still read the disk.

It's possible, however, that the disk just needs to be cleaned. Use a
slightly dampened lint-free material & wipe gently from center to edge like
spokes of a wheel.
