Disc Errors

Does anyone know how to stop Disc Errors from happening? Or, What causes
them? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help.

Buy a new disc drive, probably.

This is certainly a hardware question, not a Microsoft Access question - you
may want to have a reputable repair shop check your computer, or ask in a
hardware newsgroup. When you do indicate the manufacturer and model of disc,
the error message and the circumstances that cause it, and your version of
Windows.

Is this with respect to MS Access? Do you really mean "disk or
network error"? If so, and you are dealing with a network then you
very likely have some intermittently flaky hardware such as a network
card, cable, switch or server.

Tony,
Sorry, it is a disk error and the database is built in MS Access 2003. The
disk error occurs sometime when a form is being opened or in use. The disk
error happens and the form locks and what data that has been keyed is lost.
The form must be closed by "X"ing out and reopened. The database is housed
on a server. So there is nothing database build wise for me to be able to
fix?

But what is the exact text of the error message?

The exact message says: Disk or Network error.

This means that there is an intermittently flaky network connection
or, less likely, a software driver problem. This could be the network
card on the PC, the network cable, switch or any point in between.

Also take a look at the below page for the Corruption Causes link.

For more information on corruption including possible causes,
determining the offending PC, retrieving your data, links, official MS
KB articles and a list of vendors who state they can fix corruption
see the Microsoft Access Corruption FAQ at

Note that Aaron Kempf will almost certainly jump in with a suggestion
for you to move to ADPs and SQL server. Please disregard his postings
as he is monomaniacal on the subject.
