I have a general question about the layout of this discussion group: Why do some entries have a right-arrow beside them and some don't? Just curious.

The ones with the right arrow likely have replies. If you click on
the right arrow they should "expand out" and become visible.

It's likely a function of the client you're using to access this newsgroup.
As Tony said, it probably indicates that a reply exists. If you're
accessing this group via a website, the website may have a key explaining
what the icons mean.
