Discussion retention.

I am assisting evaluating groove for a firm that, by the nature of their
business has a significant concern over document retention/destruction
policies, particularly in not retaining insignificant documents.

First, How long is the discussion log kept in a groove workspace. Is there
a way of either manually or automatically truncating messages over X days?

Does it make a difference if the user chooses Groove Live, Groove Enterprise
Services, or Groove server?

If they purchase Groove 2007 as a standalone product how are management
services obtained? I saw a note that says that standalone purchases are
provisioned through a microsoft server for store and forward but says nothing
about management. Groove Enterprise Services are only available through a
volume license agreement and a retail purchaser would not have a volume
license agreement.

I assume that you mean discussion Tool when you refer to th "Discussion Log".
This is not a log but rather a series of records in a database. So as the
manager of the workspace you could delete any entry at your leisure.

To use Groove you must have access to a Groove Relay. If you use Office
Live Groove you get access to the Microsoft Public Relay on a subscription
basis, these accounts cannot be managed. If you have volume licensing Groove
code you must either purchase Enterprise Services or Purchase your own Groove
servers for in-house deployment, either of these options provide for user,
accunt and device management
