Display more info on Gantt Task line

I would like to include a "Start Funding" milestone 30 days before th
beginning of a certain type of task which has already been flagge
([Flag1] = Yes) via an IIF statement.

Right now I have inserted the "Date1" column, relabeled it "Star
Funding," and used another IIF statement to assign the funding dat
([Start]-30).

So now my funding start dates have been automatically generated, whic
is great, but I do not know how to display these start dates a
milestones on my Gantt chart.

QUESTIONS:
1. Specifically, is it possible to display this start date on the sam
line of the Gantt chart, similar to how a "Deadline" date appears? -OR
Is it easier to create a new start funding task? If so, how would
automatically generate these milestones?

2. Generally, is there an existing thread that explains wha
information can be included on one task line, e.g. task bar, baselin
bar, deadline, textual information, ???

Thanks,
ST

Hi,

First, curiously enough, Date1-10 firelds cannot be shown on Bar styles, but
Start1-10 and Finish1-10 can, so you will heve to put your formula in there.

Then in Format, Bar Styles, add a line as follows:
Name... Start Funding
Appearance.. The shape and color you pick in Start Shapes
Show For... Flag1
From... Start1
To... Start1

Hello straforel,

My comments are inline.

[Julie] In order to use the custom calculated field to show in the
Gantt chart, you'll have to use one of the custom start or finish
fields -- as the date fields are not available in the Format > Bar
Styles Dialog Box. You can copy/paste your formula into one of
those fields. In the example below, I've placed this formula in
Start10.
So now my funding start dates have been automatically generated,

[Julie]: If I understand correctly, you have tasks where Flag1 = yes
which show a calculated date in one of the StartX fields. You are
actually very close if you look at the bar definition for Deadline.
Choose Format > Bar Styles, click on the Summary bar definition and
click the Insert Row button to insert a new blank row. Give the bar
a name select an appearance. In the Show for .... column, select
Flag1, leave at Row 1, choose Start10 for From and Start10 for To.
Click on OK to close and add the bar.

You may also want to consider adding information to a spare text
field (Text30) that combines the name of the task plus the text
"Funding Date" and show that to the left of the newly created bar.
Particularly if the funding date bar is 30 days before, it might be
difficult to trace the bar back.
2. Generally, is there an existing thread that explains what
information can be included on one task line, e.g. task bar,
baseline
bar, deadline, textual information, ???

[Julie] I imagine you can work it out by looking at the Tracking
Gantt view and looking at the bar styles dialog box. That Gantt
chart works with slim bars placed close to one another. If you
can't, do post back with specific questions and we'll help out.
Thanks,
STR

[Julie] I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Hi STR

I feel that there could be a simpler way of going about this problem. Before
a certain task, insert the milestone 'Start funding' and link it with the
next task with the predecessor link of SS with (-30 days lag). So, you will
get the correct Start date for your milestone of 'Start Funding' and that can
be shown with the Gantt bars.

We normally do this in construction projects. e.g I would like to show that
7 days before starting any particular group of works, the material should be
received at site.

I hope it helps.
