Display of Uninstalled Font

If I change the 'normal' style in a specific template to use a
certain font, and send documents based on that template to users
whose computers do not have that font installed (and I do not embed
the font in the document), how is the text displayed on their
monitors and on their printouts? If the font is translated to TNR or
whatever they have as 'normal' style, is it correct that the layout
is likely to change, also?

Word makes a guess about the 'next best' font to display. The result is
unpredicatable, because it depends on what fonts the user happens to have
installed.

Yes, the layout is almost certain to change.
