I'm using Word 97 under XP Pro, with a Matrox G450 video card running two
screens. This has been a successful combination for me--until this morning.
Suddenly, when I try to call up Word, the opening "Microsoft Word" block
flashes briefly on the screen and then the program refuses to display. The
minimized "button" at the bottom is highlighted, showing that the system
"thinks" Word has the focus, but the screen shows only the desktop. This
occurs whether Word is called up with the desktop icon or by double-clicking
a .doc file. Word is the only program affected by this problem; in
particular, Excel and the PowerPoint viewer display normally. I have
attempted a cure by removing Word and reinstalling it, but without success.
Does anyone recognize the symptom? Can anyone suggest a fix? I'm a
freelance writer, and this is about as bad as things get, short of having a
bad power supply fry my motherboard and hard drive at the same time.
Many thanks.
