Displaying Leading Zeros in Cell

I am trying to create a column of account #s, of which
many have leading zeros. I made sure that the "zero
values" is checked on the Tools, Options, View tab but I
still don't see the 0s. I have a workaround (maybe it's
the correct fix??) of just formatting the column as a text
column, but I don't understand why checking the zero
values checkbox doesn't work.

Thanks much.

Hi
some ways:
- format the column as 'Text'
- enter the account numbers with a preceding '. e.g. '012345
- use a custom format like
00000

Hi

just to follow on from Fred's suggestions, the reason that ticking the "zero
values" on the Tools, Options, View tab didn't do anything as its purpose is
to supress or display cells where there is only a 0 in the cell not the way
you wanted it.

Perhaps you can use a custom format?

If you are working with say numbers that are no longer 6 digits, yo
could use 000000 to force zeroes to appear if some number have les
than 6 digits. Try right clicking the range, then Format Cells, Number
Custom.

I hope this can help you as alternative to formatting to text

Right. I use Frank's tips often, but now I understand the
reasoning behind that "zero values" checkbox. Thanks!

Right, I use Franks tips often but I was trying to
understand the reasoning behind the zeros values checkbox.
