Distance between objects?

How do I set an equal distance between objects on a page. Example: I have 5
objects and I need exactly 1/8 inch between them. The closest I come is
"Arrange"
then "Align or Distribute" and then "Distribute Horizontally" but I cannot
specify the distance between the objects. Help - please & thanks.

You can't exactly specify the distances between them, only their exact
positions. Place the first object where you want it, then use the
Measurement toolbar to set the position of the second one to the
position of the first + exactly 0.125", etc.

Here is an alternative that I find handy. Make a new text box. Fill it with
a color so it is easy to see. Using the ruler, size it so that it is exactly
1/8 inch square. Make sure the snap to option is enabled, and move this
'spacer' box to the side of the first object. Then move the second object
until it snaps to the 'spacer'. The move the spacer over to the side of the
object you just moved into place and repeat with the third, etc. If you want
the objects all to be at the same height, then place the spacer at the top
corner of the first object, on the side, and let the second object snap to
alignment both horizontally and a 1/8 inch apart. When you are done, just
drag the spacer off into the scratch area until you need it again.
