divide page - how?

I use both Word and Word Perfect. I often like to divide the page into 2
(or more) virtual pages either horizontally or vertically. In Word Perfect
that is easy to do. I have yet to figure out how to do this in Word. Can
anyone make a suggestion? Thanks.

Select Split from the Window menu. Or, equivalently, select the tiny
rectangle above the top arrow on the scroll bar and drag downwards.

A horizontal split can be accomplished with the Split command on the
Window menu, but there is no way in Word to split a document window
vertically.

You sort of can.

Don't "Show Windows in TaskBar", make a new Window (Window>New
Window). Then "Restore" one of the Windows so they're not maximized
within the Word Window. Now you have two windows of the same file
that you can resize and move next to each other to look like a
vertical split.

I stand corrected.

This doesn't accomplish what I want. I want to be able to have a 'SINGLE'
pane to view my work, but with a page-break half-way down the page. So when
I type down to the 5.5" mark (on an 11" sheet) the cursor will 'jump' down
to the 'next' page, even though it is on a single sheet. I want to be able
to format for birthday and greeting cards this way. It is easy on WP. Is
this possible in Word?

Thanks for the info already given.

OK, that's clearer. You were asking slightly the wrong question. The task is
not 'how to get Word to emulate WP's method' (which is hard), but 'how to
use Word to format greeting cards' (which is easy).

Have a look at Word's greeting card templates. Tables, textboxes, and frames
are some of the available methods, according to taste.

Bruce, as far as I know, there is no way to do this. Word doesn't
have the same functionality as WP and it's just something we have to
live with and get used to, unfortunately. I have a list that has
grown over the years of things WP does that Word still doesn't do.
Even if there is an unknown, to me, way of doing this, I can nearly
guarantee 100% it won't be anywhere near as easy to do as in WP.

Good luck! Let me know if you find a way around this, yes? It's
something I wish we could do in Word, too, since Word unfortunately is
the program that is on more systems.

If you have Word 2000 or above, you can use the "2 pages per sheet" option
in the Page Setup (not Print) dialog to get two logical pages either
horizontally or vertically on a single sheet.
