Daniel,
Your post is but yet another in a long list of examples of how a basic
requirement that YOU as a Business owner identify as a required "mandatory
feature" for your own particular business implementation of BCM (a
customizable Account Number field) is sadly at odds with a stupidly built-in
BCM "mandatory feature" that requires you to use an Account Name ONLY with
zero option to allow you to do a simple field customization to also add an
Account number to each Account Record.
This is the intended "ONE SIZE FITS ALL" design mentality built into BCM that
users must learn to live with. I am not intending to be negative. I am
simply telling it like it is so that you are better able to determine whether
your intended BCM deployment will meet your needs. For the time being anyway
you will likely have to learn to live with this restriction of non-
customizable forms if you choose to use BCM as a tool for your business.
There are a LOT of needless impediments to adoption of BCM by the very large
Outlook user base. This is very unfortunate and hopefully someone figures it
out eventually within the Microsoft kingdom. I have waited for over 2 years
with BCM with only marginal improvements made available in the version 2
update.
It is easy to keep saying that customization is on the wish list for future
versions but that does not help those of us with present day needs in the
real world who are forced to make needless trade off decisions over such
basic functional design omissions in BCM that could have easily been
available in version 1.
The sooner that BCM designers stop regarding this incremental add-in as some
cute little ongoing beta experiment the better adoption there will likely be.
BCM has so much painfully apparent, unrealized potential to really kick some
serious entry level CRM a_ _ !
Rant over.
