Hi MMB,
It's not clear if you're using MS Office 2007 and MS Word or if you're using MS Works v9.
If you're using MS Works word processor you may want to review the steps in

If you're using MS Office 2007, what are the steps you're using and what is the exact error message you're getting when opening
files from your hard drive?
