doctype for frontpage; other posts not helpful

Thanks to all of you! I learned a lot from this post.
Jim, I am sorry about your being banned. That is a shame. I would have
done the hidden link thing completely out of ignorance. Thanks for sharing
your unfortunate situation.
Because of all the great advice, I am not going to pursue the doctype at
this time. Maybe when I get schmarter about webdesign (boy, I could be
REALLY old by then) I will attempt it.
Thanks again

message : At this point, a DOCTYPE tag won't hurt you or help you.
:
Exacty. All a doctype does is tell the browser what set of
standards to use when attempting to display your content.
Search engines only care about the content itself, and not
the graphical presentation of it

I didn't get much past the part about FP cannot create valid HTML. 8)

Just curious. I rather doubt that you were addressing the entire message,
so your reply befuddled me (not a difficult thing to do, admittedly!)

But.. that was the part that made sense. The actual quote was "...FrontPage
doesn't create valid documents", which I took to mean, "FrontPage doesn't
not automatically create valid documents".

I see. But I am worried about the double negative there.... 8)

I think I know what you mean, and it appears I may have shot from the hip.
Well, that's a first time for me, then! 8)

This was a interesting thread!!

I responded to jim because he said something that I want to clear up.

hidden links.
here is my doc type:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"

here is my page:
http://jpbellwether.com/West_parent_checklist.htm

It will not validate because of "NOBR"
It is easy to install links in frontpage, but I have no idea how to edit
them since they are hidden.

How would I change it without hidding them and make this a valid page?
(<!--webbot bot="Navigation" S-Type="sequence" S-Orientation="vertical"
S-Rendering="graphics" B-Include-Home="FALSE" B-Include-Up="FALSE"
U-Page="sid:1026" -->!)

thanks

would you recomend a differant way of doing the navigation in frontpage? I
have been using alot because I thought it was easy, but I do not have any
other ideas.

The only other way to create navigation bars is to hand code the
navigation - place in a file on its own and include that file in every
page.
Or ignore the validation errors - do the pages display correctly in
every browser? That is more important than validation - and some
valid pages (example: those that use the CSS whitespace attribute
instead of <nobr> tags) do not display correctly in all browsers.
