Document Autofill

Jimbo

Hello all, I am trying to find out if I can have a textbox
on a document that automatcally transfers to a latter
textbox in the same doc.
For example a lease: I want the lease'es name at the
signature to autofill when I type in the name in the
textbox at the beginning.

Jimbo,

Several ways using Fields. The simplest (IMO) is to bookmark the first use
of the name (, Insert>Bookmark>YourBookmarkName) then use REF fields in the
subsequent locations ({REF YourBookmarkName}). The { } field code brackets
are entered with CTRL+F9. The fields do not update automatically, but will
update on Print or you can CTRL+a to select all and then F9 to update.

More robust is an ASK field and even more robust is a DOCPROPERTY field.
Type ASK field in Word's Help to get started.

Text form fields have built-in bookmarks (Text1, Text2, etc.). Double-click
on the field to open the Form Field Options dialog if you want to change the
bookmark to something more recognizable. Then, where you want the data
entered in the form field repeated, use Insert | Cross-reference (Insert |
Reference | Cross-reference in Word 2002 and above) to insert a
cross-reference to Bookmark: Bookmark text, selecting the appropriate
bookmark. If you check the box for "Calculate on exit" in the Form Field
Options dialog, the cross-reference will update automatically.
