Document corrupt after a day

I am having issues running Word 2002 on WinXP, part of
Office XP standard. People save documents, then a day
later some documents are corrupt, no error, just good
text at the beginning then garbage symbols, then the rest
of the document is gone.

Any solutions out there? or do I have a virus running
around. Thanks for the help!

Go to File > Open

In the dialog box is a setting for type of file. It should say Word
documents, not Recover Text from Any File.

Are these documents being worked on over the network? Network delays and
outages can produce this effect.
