Document corruption.

I have two clients at a contract that seem to be losing documents on a regular basis. When they are working on a document it will suddenly go from a 4 page document to a 24 page document with unrecognizable characters (squares, computer symbols, etc) filling out the document. I have ruled out virus as we have preformed scans on both of these systems (Norton Corporate Ed.) and come up with nothing. There are other people running Office XP in the building, but only two are experiencing this problem
We have replaced the systems, re-installed the Office package, run the latest service packs all with no luck. The systems are installed on a Windows 2000 network and their default save locations are set to their network drive (H:\). Any help would be appreciated.

It's the network that's the issue, I think. See “WD2002: Unexpected
Characters Are Added to Your Document†at

Test the network connections by moving the computers temporarily to a
different location. If you have a managed network, get the Sys Admin to run
the network tools to monitor those outlets to see if there is a problem.
