document doesn't open properly

hi there,
recently whenever i double-click a word document in my documents, microsoft
word 2003 opens but the word document doesn't open after that; it just stays
on the blank grey screen. so i have to go file > open to open the document
again. does anyone know why this is happening and give me any suggestions on
how i can make the word document open the first time i double-click it in my
documents?

It sounds like your file types for Word need to be recreated. Go to
Start/Run and run:

winword /r

Note the space before the forward slash.
