Document imaging takes over Photoshop tiffs

When I click on an image that I created in Photoshop, or Fireworks, or
whatever, the image opens in MS document imaging instead of the original app.
How do I make it stop this?

OOps, I spoke too soon. Here's an example of my problem. I use a lot of
graphics-related applications. I create a graphic in Photoshop and save it as
Number1.tiff. I create a different graphic in say, Ulead PhotoImpact and save
it as Number2.tiff. Later I want to change Number1.tiff. When I click on
that filename, I want it to open in Photoshop, the application where it was
created. Instead, it opens in a DocumentImaging window. To work on
Number2.tiff, I have to close that window, check my file's properties to
remind me where I created that graphic, open that app, then open the graphic
to make my changes.

Somehow, that DocImaging window has got it's claws on all my graphic files.
I want to find the setting that allows it to do this and cancel it. How do I
do that?

Looking forward to hearing from you again. Thanks in advance.

1. I've got scads of graphic files. Do you mean that I must change the
association in Properties from MS DocImage back to Photoshop, Fireworks,
etc., one by one?

2. Do you know how this happened in the first place (I certainly didn't do
it myself!) How can I be certain that what happened without my participation
won't just happen all over again? I'm hoping for a setting somewhere that I
can change to prevent this before I invest the time doing #1 above.

I'm thoroughly "computer literate" so don't be shy about getting techie with
me. I'd love to hear from someone who knows how this happened and where I can
go to fix it. Anyone?

You'll need to change each file association individually. Once you do tho,.
you shouldn't have to do it again.

I found a thread in Office Setup that looks like the answer I'm seeking, but
I need some help with it. Probian9910 reported problems with having Word docs
opening automatically in Document Imaging instead of Word. Horst Siegert
replied as follows:

"I hope you will recognize the items - I'm, using a german version:
Start the file-explorer, / menue Extra / Options /
TAB: 'kind of files' / in the list box select TIFF and click change.
but your problem seem to be the link *.doc documents.
so, do the same with *.doc and change the program to use to Word
horst"

I tried to follow his instructions in my English version of DocImaging, but
don't recognize a similar sequence of menus. Can anyone tell me where his
"file-explorer" starting point is?

Thanks all!

Hi Eileen,

With no TIFF files open, from Windows Explorer using Tools=>Folder
Options=>File Types and delete the entries fo
TIF and TIFF files. Then in Windows explorer, locate a .TIF graphic, hold
down the shift key, right click the TIF file, select 'Open With' then
'Choose Program' and set a new file association (although many graphics
programs will also do this for you through their Option menus)In MS Office
Document Imaging stay away from the 'Options' [Reset] button to open TIFF
images with that app as a default.

It looks like an operating system fix, not an Office one.
Try:
Windows Explorer-View-Folder Options-File Types

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.

To Alan Edwards and Bob Buckland -

Thank you! Your solution worked. All my graphics files now open in their
original application -- automatically. I really appreciate your interest in
helping those of us with problems. Keep up the good work.
