Document Imaging Tool: Can I Remove Shadows or Darken the Text?

Hi everyone.

I'm using Office 2003 and have a question or two about some of the
Office Tools...specifically, the Document Scanning and Document
Imaging tools.

I have scanned a few documents, and some shadow appears on the outer
fringes. Also, the scanned image, when printed out, is just a tad bit
lighter than I'd like.

Is there an option in any section of Office 2003 that can modify or
retouch the scanned image, so that the shadow can be lessened, and the
image darkened a bit?

Also, is there a way to straighten, or auto-straighten, a scanned
document that's just slightly misaligned?

Up to now, I've been using Pagis Pro 3.0, OCR, and retouch documents.
Pagis Pro has done a fine job. But if the tools in Microsoft Office
2003 can do what I need, then there isn't a need for me to install
Pagis.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to retouch these images and
remove shading or perhaps bleed-through? Thank you!
