Document Imaging

It's there, but it's not installed by default. In the setup, it's located in
Office Tools.

I have the home office and student version - is Document Imaging a part of
the package?

From what I'm reading, yes, Document Imaging is included with Home and
Student. If you don't see it in Start - Programs - Office - Office Tools,
then go to Add/Remove programs in the control panel, Microsoft Office, and
navigate to the Office Tools section and add it.

Glad that you and I agree on the reading. But, I've tried to install it
twice from add/remove in microsoft programs control panel and once from the
original cd - aall i get is a ms xps document writer - i don't think that is
the same thing. Tips?

I installed an update today for my vista ultimate, which of course restarted
the computer. Now the MODI seems to work fine - in fact, to be precise as to
your question I have two instances avilable - one for scanning, the other
imaging. I think I am all set. Wonder why the restart wasn't requested
either time I tried to install it: once from the original CD, the other from
"add/Dele" under ms office programs.

When you choose Start - [All] Programs - Microsoft Office - Microsoft Office
Tools, what programs do you see listed?

Also... when you double-click to open a .tif file, what program is used to
display that file?

I'm researching these questions because I'm having the same problem with
Office 2007. I used to view .tif files with Microsoft Office Document Imaging
on an older Windows version. Now, I have 2007 and when I do what you told the
other person to do I only have MO Picture Manager listed (among other items
not related to this issue). Also, when I open a .tif file it opens with MOPM.
So next I went into the control panel to add MODI and it says installed on
1st use yet it's not there????

Hi Mike,

See if changing the state of MS Office Document Imaging from 'Install on First Use' to 'Run from My Computer' makes it available.

Thanks. I was able to get MODI to appear on my start tab after some more
investigation after I had posted. Now, I need to figure out how to make that
my default program for .tif files. Is this possible?

First open Picture Manager and click Tools, File Types, and UNtick tiff,
ok, close PM.
Then r-click a .TIF file, select Open with, Choose program, select MODI,
and tick the box for "Always use....."

there is no "file types" under tools..all it has for options is to customize.
when i try to open a .tif file I get an error message saying "%1 is not a
valid win32 application". also when I try to choose a program to open with i
don't see MODI, I only see it listed under my start tab...

Then pick Customize, and then Right click on "Tools" and pic "Reset" to
put the File Types menu option back.

In addition, I wonder whether something bad has happened to your Office
installation? Have you tried Help, Detect and Repair in Picture manager?

Mike, What did you discover during your investigation? I have been in and out
of the Add/Remove, Repair cycle within my Office Enterprise 2007 and have not
been able to get MODI to re-appear when I right-mouse click on a .tif file,
even under the "Open with..." and "Choose Program..." options.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
I've been looking all over the web for this answer.
To think the answer has been right here the whole time.
THANK YOU!

My husband and I installed Office 2007 and have been following the steps to
install the MODI. He needed to select the "Install on First Use" option.
However, when opening to use/install, he got the error message: "The app
failed because MSPCORE.DLL was not found. Reinstalling the app may fix this
problem."
When he tried to run/open the Document scanning, he got essentially the same
message with the substitution of MSPGIMME.DLL.
Do you have any suggestions? This has been helpful because MODI didn't come
with the Office 2007 and we can't afford MS $50 for help!

Thanks for the help. We purchased Office 2007 and are missing the MODI and
scanner. We followed the steps to install & had to use the Install on First
Use option. However, when attempting to open for first use, an error message
indicated that the MSPCORE.DLL (for MODI) and then MSGIMME.DLL (for scanner)
files were missing.
Do you have any idea how we can fix this? We certainly appreciate being
able to find answers here...it's much gentler on our pocketbook!
