Document libraries: how to mix Outlook and Win file date fields

I am using Outlook 2000 to create a shared document library, which will hold
Outlook mail message posts, Office files, and other Windows files. I would
like to be able to sort all of this by a single date field containing the
original file date (not the post date). Outlook automatically populates
"Received" when you add a post, so this doesnt work when adding files - I
would like to store the file date, not the post date. I can customize a file
property field like "Date Completed". But I can only sort the files for this
field - it's null for all the Outlook posts. Can I somehow populate one date
field (for file posts, ideally using the Windows "Created", "Modified" file
tags which are automatically populated), so that I can sort everything in the
folder by one date? Thanks in advance, gb.

An Outlook item is not a file system entity, so "file date" has no meaning
whatsoever. Moreover, Outlook items are generally not available from
viewing in file ssyetm folders.
