Document name or path is not valid

Mark H.

I received an error message box that states that "The document name or path is not valid." when opening a file on my computer. I researched the Knowledge Base and attempted all of the options for article 224016 for this issue, however none of the proposed solutions provided any satisfactory result. The file comes up in WordPad and NotePad. There are over 200 Excel links in the document, so working from a .txt file is not a good solultion. I am assuming that the file is corrupted in some way, so if anyone has any practical advise, I would appreciate it.

Which version of Word?

Does this happen if you try to open the document from within Word using the
File Open dialog? Does it happen if you double-click on the file's icon in
Windows with Word already open?

I am using Office 2000. The error occurs when I double-click on the W icon associated with the document, as well as when attempting to use File Open. I am not running Norton Anti-Virus, so that is not an issue

Thanks for your prompt response
