Document not saved

Every once in a while when I try to save an excel
workbook I get the error "Documment not Saved". It don't
think it is a a problem with my server connection because
if I try to save the file somewhere else like my laptop I
cannot save it. I have tried different locations with
different names and every time I receive the error
message. any help?

When excel saves the file, it saves it as a temporary file with a funny name (8
characters--no extension).

If the save is successful, xl will delete the original and if that's successful,
xl will rename the funny named file to the original's name.

Common things that get blamed for interruptions to this process are antivirus
software poking its head in or network errors--either permissions or physical
problems.

From your description, I think I'd try disabling the antivirus software to see
if that helped.

I had one of them last night when I tried to convert an excel spreadsheet
into a different version. I was informed that a temp copy of my spreadsheet
had been copied into n location and if I wanted to save into a different
format I should open the temp spreadsheet and then save and convert that
one! Perhaps the same has happened to you - just thinking out loud...
Any help?
