Document Opened In Word 2003 Displays Garbage Characters...

I have a user who is currently using Office 2003 Basic Edition. He opens an
older (Word 2000) document in Word 2003 and it displays correctly. He allows
the screen saver to come on, then turns it back off. The Word document is
now displaying garbage characters in both normal layout view & print layout
view; however, it displays correctly in web layout view. There is no Refresh
option available that I can find. If he saves the document, the saved
version opens up w/ the garbage displayed.

Has anoyone run into this bug, and is there a fix?
