Hello

In my word document, which is very long, I have a bunch of pages that are
pre-contents pages that should be numbered I, II, III, IV etc..
but just after the contents page, it should start numbering 1, 2, 3, 4 etc.

Is there any way to accomplish this dynamically with the {PAGE} field?

Also, with headers, I know it possible to make the first page a different
header, but if I wanted to make all the pages with I, II, III have a
different header and then all the pages with 1, 2, 3, 4 have the same
header, how would I do that?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Cheers

Hi Thomas

The standard way to do this is to insert a section break at the end of your
contents page. You can then:

Define the format of the numbering and the start number individually for
each section

Define separate headers for each section. To do this, you turn off 'Same as
previous' for the headers in the second section.

In answer to your specific question, it would be possible to achieve similar
effects using fields (you have to think up some interesting IF conditions)
but there seems little point for this requirement.
