document wont open

I am having an issue with office 2003. I tried opening several documents and
an error message comes up saying that the document cant open because its
password protected. the documents were never given a password. I initially
suspected a virus however several scans with 2 different programs showed no
viruses. I then proceded to reinstall office again with no results. This is
happening with both word and excel documents. any ideas as to what is going
on?

Are you using Windows XP or Windows 2000 Pro? I am having an issue with
Publisher, cannot open file.
I have Windows 2000 pro.
