Documenter issues...

Hi,

[using Office/Access 2000 sp3 on Win2000 sp4 and Win98SE]

I have a db with several queries (various kinds) in it. When I use the built-in Access
Documenter, or Jeff Conrad's version (CSD Tools
http://home.bendbroadband.com/conradsystems/accessjunkie/resources.html), some of the
queries do *not* show in the report. It seems Select queries show OK, but Action
queries are problematic.

To test this, I started with a new/blank mdb file, created a couple of simple tables,
then created simple Delete, Update, and Append queries.

The Access Documenter shows the Update and Append queries, but *not* the Delete query.

The CSD documenter did not show any at all.
(Note that query names show in the Object List, but query *details* do not show.)

Has anybody else seen this?
Are there known issues with the Documenters?

Thanks,
John

Yes, there is a problem with the built-in documenter.
I haven't tried Jeff's.

If you just need a list of queries, try:

SELECT MSysObjects.Name FROM MsysObjects
WHERE ((MSysObjects.Type = 5) AND ([Name] Not Like "~*"))
ORDER BY MSysObjects.Name;

Hi John,

Thanks for the e-mails with screenshots.
I'm actually doing some testing on this right now.

On Access 2003 using your test data from offline
e-mail, the Delete Query does not even show up
on the main Access Documentor Tab dialog box! I'm
really surprised and never noticed this before.
The two test tables show on the tables tab, but
the delete query is no where to be found on the
Queries tab.

The Update query and Append queries do show up
in the queries tab of the Documentor. Very interesting.

Thanks guys. At least I know I'm not "seeing things" :)

Allen, Jeff's version does show me the list of names, but can't see the details.

Jeff, I'm looking forward to an updated version :)
I like the simplified reporting in your documenter -- it's cleaner and leaner than the
Access Documenter. For the moment, I can hand-build the missing pieces, using your
report style.

Thanks again,
John

Hi John,

Look what I found:

Documenter does not display the DELETE query in Microsoft Access:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;888636

That would explain things on the Documentor.

Thanks for the nice comments on my add-in.
Looks like a little updating is in order.

I'll add this to the growing list of requests.
:)

<sigh of chagrin>

How'd you find that? I was looking on the MS site last nite, just came up with the
standard documenter stuff. ('course, I flunked Search 101, so that's not surprising
;-)

Thanks

Hi John,

Well I did some playing with this tonight and my report of the
queries will now list them all. Yes, all of them. I tested with
each type (at least every type I'm aware of <g>).
Better than the Documenter on that one now.
:)

The report will also list the query type for each one as well.
I figured that would be something people would like.

It will still be a while before I can release Version 2 as I need
to make some additional modifications, as well as do some
through testing, but your suggestion has already been added.

Thanks again for bringing it to my attention.
