Documents and spreadsheets opening as read only occassionally

Intermittently, when trying to work on Word and Excel 2007 files they are
opening as read only. When I look at the properties of the file, the read
only flag is not ticked.

Any ideas why this could be happening?

Are these files being opened from a network location?

This did not happen with Office 2003 - do you know what has changed?

Hmmm. AFAIK documents opened from a SHARED network drive have ALWAYS
been Read only. Maybe the network drive has been changed from a
dedicated one for your user to a shared one...
