Documents are opening in Print Layout View

When I open some Word documents, they open in "Print Layout" view. I know
when they were saved, they were saved in "Normal" view.

I have gone into Tool --> Options ---> General, and deselected "Allow
starting in reading view", but that didn't help. Also, the documents are
opening in "Print Layout" view.

Recent Word versions (Word 2000 and above) are rather flaky about
maintaining some View settings. Documents sometimes seem to inherit the
settings of the window in which they are opened. Sometimes the only way to
guarantee consistency is with a macro.
