Documents - save as html/doc?

When you create a new document in PWA (Documents - View
and Upload Documents - Library) the default file format
to save as is webpage (*.htm; *.html).
Can anyone tell me what advantages/disadvantages it is to
save as web page instead of for instance word document?

No. Your administrator can set the default document
creation format, i.e. .doc on the STS Administration
site. You can also set a variety of different default
file types, however, only one can be the default. You
can upload any type you wish.
