DOCX in Word 2004

Why cant I save/Edit DOCX files in Word 2004? I thought that all these
updates I keep on downloading would have included such a common sense
feature. Geesh!

You can. You only need to download the Open XML File Format Converter for
Mac, which you can find in the Downloads section of the Mactopia site. You
can find it in the category "Additional Tools". You might also want to make
sure your copy of Office 2004 is up-to-date prior to downloading the
converter. Once it is installed, you can open and save files in the new XML
format in any of the Office 2004 applications.

Its installed however to save or convert files I need to go through this. I'd
rather not and use Word directly to open/save to DOCX. How can this be done?

For some reason that I do no understand either, Microsoft is not "pushing"
the converter out to you, you have to go to the Microsoft website and
download it explicitly.

Why? I dunno: ask your boss, chances are you're on better terms with him
than I am :)

Cheers

Are you sure Office 2004 is up-to-date? It works as advertised on my Mac.

Hi John -

Have you installed the 11.5.0 update? If not, install it now & you will be
able to do as you ask. It incorporates the Converters.

It would have been "automatic" if the Converters had been in place prior to
applying 11.5.0 but since it wasn't you may have to re-apply it. I'm not
sure whether applying 11.5.1 will incorporate the Converter. I'll try to get
clarification & get back to you as soon as I can.
